Hi everyone, welcome back to Audpod! I really will try to do this more often, but here I am with my second ever episode.
In today's episode, I’m going to be sharing with you a bit of poetry I wrote in school, plus something really cool I experienced on a recent camping trip. But first, the poems …
You see, in fifth grade, my class had a poetry unit, and I had a great time writing poems with my classmates. So, without further ado, here are some poems I wrote.
The first one is called "Back Here":
I’ve traveled far, I’ve traveled near.
Never wanting something more.
Always ending up back here.
But then sometimes I start to fear.
That I’ll run out of places to explore.
I’ve traveled far, I’ve traveled near.
Yet I don’t shed a single tear.
And I’ve opened every single door.
Always ending up back here.
Some others just might think it’s queer.
And say they think that I’m a bore.
I’ve traveled far, I’ve traveled near.
Through gaps in the universe I will peer.
Surrounded by the ancient lore.
Always ending up back here.
My colleagues dare say my work is mere.
But soon they’ll see that I can soar.
I’ve traveled far, I’ve traveled near.
Always ending up back here.
Next is a poem called "Stars," which I actually just wrote for fun and not as part of an assignment:
Up in the sky, so bright and so bold.
With secrets hidden and stories untold.
Hiding the tales of ones now passed.
A beacon of hope in a universe so vast.
More in the sky than sand grains on Earth.
Representing love, hope, and rebirth.
Sparkling so bright and blazing with fire.
Containing the secrets that humans desire.
Dominating the universe looking down on our small home.
With vast galaxies to explore and universes to roam.
The eternal travelers, in our sky they will forever stay.
Coming into view at night, when down to bed we lay.
And finally, here is a funny poem called "Sorry":
I am sorry that I ate
the last piece of chocolate cake.
I knew from the moment you saw me
it was all a big mistake.
But the rich and creamy frosting
was dancing in my mouth.
Plus, I really enjoyed the cake itself
before it all went south.
I know you would have loved it
all the joyful tastes it had.
You know, when it all comes down to it
I don’t feel all that bad.
I hope you enjoyed listening to my poems, since I definitely enjoyed writing them! In fact, poetry is a great way to pass the time if you're bored. One thing I find super cool about poetry is how you can make your poems silly, scary, exciting, romantic, and anything else that you can dream up. And, luckily, all you really need to make poetry is a creative mind—and possibly a pencil and paper.
Aside from learning how to write poetry, my class also learned about famous poets such as Robert Frost and Edgar Allan Poe. We also got to read their poems, and my favorite one by far was “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” written by Robert Frost. We even did a project on a poet who we found interesting. I chose Edgar Allan Poe, and learned about his fascinating yet tragic life.
Our next topic is also about being expressive, just like poetry. OK, let me explain. A little while ago, my family and some of our friends went to a very unique state park called Seminole Canyon, which is well known for its historical cave paintings, or pictographs.
We took a guided tour in which we visited a large rock shelter called Fate Bell, which was huge! There was art everywhere, even in very high places. My favorite part is that since the pictographs were made such a long time ago, no one actually knows what they represent. Sure, experts might be better at guessing, but anyone can be the person that uncovers the truth. Plus, even if you’re wrong, it’s fun to guess! A squiggly line could be a snake, a worm, a wave, or something else entirely! (There are also things called petroglyphs, which are carved into a rock instead of painted on and are known to last longer.) I loved learning about the history of Seminole Canyon State Park and enjoyed my visit to this unique place. Hopefully I'll go back someday!
That’s all for this episode. Be on the look out for the next one which will be all about my sports, swimming and running!
